Role Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and results-driven Director of Business Development to lead our growth initiatives and expand our market presence. This role is pivotal in identifying new business opportunities, building strong client relationships, and driving strategic planning efforts. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of the Meetings & Events industry, and will demonstrate exceptional leadership skills to guide our business development team.
Key Responsibilities Include:
1. Sales Leadership and Strategy (40%)
- Lead, mentor, and grow a team of sales professionals across SSS and Sandbox Events, ensuring accountability and success.
- Refine existing sales management system as needed.
- Assess and monitor existing sales targets and performance metrics, refining them as necessary to align with any potential updated sales processes and strategies implemented under your leadership.
- Provide limited guidance and support to the team of independent contractors, acting as a bridge to help foster integration. Recruit and onboard new contractors, offering basic training.
- Act as a member of the Senior Leadership Team, contributing to weekly meetings and reporting back on status of various action items.
2. Business Growth (40%)
- Assist with the development and execution of a comprehensive strategy for expanding the client base for both companies.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients, industry stakeholders, and partners.
- Proactively identify and pursue new business opportunities, partnerships, and client relationships in the meetings and events industry.
- Support long-term business development initiatives that align with company goals and vision.
- Work closely with the marketing team to align on lead generation strategies and campaigns.
- Partner with operations to streamline various systems and processes, ensuring seamless client onboarding and exceptional service delivery.
3. Industry Engagement (20%)
- Represent SSS and Sandbox Events at key industry events, trade shows, and conferences.
- Actively network to identify potential sales talent and recruit high-performing individuals for the sales team.
- Stay informed on industry trends, innovations, and competitive landscape to identify growth opportunities.
Skills
- Proven experience in business development within the Meetings & Events industry or related fields.
- Strong knowledge of Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system (Salesforce).
- Excellent negotiation skills with a track record of closing deals successfully.
- Strategic planning abilities that align with long-term business goals.
- Proficient in sales techniques and methodologies to drive revenue growth.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration across teams.
